In March 2020, the world was forced into a ‘lockdown’ to help stop the spread of Coronavirus. Many of us, worldwide, found ourselves self-isolating for several months.
As we began to adjust to the “new normal”, theatres remained closed. Covid-19 caused all of Pants on Fire’s work to be placed on hold. Rather than become disheartened by our situation, we decided to put our efforts into an exciting fundraising project. Raising money for the National Autistic Society, we wanted to create an online video collection of all 154 Shakespeare sonnets.
We reached out to a wide range of international theatre makers and rallied the troops. The ask was simple - each performer had free range to create a video of their allocated sonnet in whatever way they wished - the only catch? It had to be under one minute in length!
The National Autistic Society is the UK’s leading charity for autistic people and their families. Their goal is to help transform lives, change attitudes and create a society that works for autistic people. Lockdown has caused changes to everyday life which we have all found challenging. The work NAS does to help autistic people and their families is even more vital during this time.
The response and support we received for this fantastic charity was overwhelming. The result is an exciting, eclectic and diverse collection of sonnets, each unique to the performer in question.
We hope that you enjoy watching and please donate.
